Mint 14 / Mate 1.6 "Advanced Menu" option missing

Post by SteveFAL » Mon Jun 10, 2013 3:10 am

I use Mint 13 with Mate 1.4 and couldn't be happier. My dad recently installed Mint 15 which has Mate 1.6 and when setting it up for him I noticed that under "add to panel" only the "Main Menu" ('the main mint menu') and "menu bar" ('a custom menu bar') options were available. On my Mint 13 installation, there was a third option of an "Advanced Menu" which, which from a single icon (like the "Main Menu" uses) dropped down a large-ish menu box with all the 'applications-places-system' stuff available without having to mouse-over for sub-menus in 'places' and 'system' like the "Main Menu" does. The other great thing about the "Advanced Menu" was the ability to set a separate theme for it (different from the overall window theme).
Why on earth was this dropped from Mint 14/Mate1.6 and is there a way to install it on this newer release?
THANKS in advance,
--Steve
PS- Things like this are why I stick to LTS versions. Please leave the "change for the sake of change" (especially when pertaining to the removal of features) to Ubuntu and Windows...

I agree, especially with your PS.
