Caja Unresponsive Freezes Locks up by copying/moving files

This bug in Caja is still an issue with large file transfers of any file type. I am currently using Linux Mint MATE 17.3 Rosa 32 bit edition.

Previous
A work around has been discovered by a user at the Mate Desktop Forums (http://forums.mate-desktop.org) by doing the following: Caja > Edit > Preferences > Preview > Sound Files > Preview sound files: Never). This bug issue will remain open as the issue still needs to be fixed on back end.

Caja unresponsive/freezes/locks up when the following tasks are completed
1) Navigating and viewing a folder that contains audio files
2) Audio files being moved from one folder to another
3) When viewing a folder that contains an audio file that is double clicked to play
4) When two folders are being viewed that contain audio files simultaneously

Notes
1) This is using Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca MATE Edition (32 bit)
2) Once Caja becomes unresponsive, I open the System Monitor and kill the process (caja). Caja then restarts and everything is fine.
3) This only occurs with folders containing audio files -- nothing else.
4) This does not occur each and every time so please be patient when testing for yourself.

And from me:
Affects my system also. (Mint 17.3 Mate x64)
This happend by copying or moving not only the audio files..
Pictures, documents etc. also are freezing entire Caja and window manager.

Temporary workaround with turning off the audio file preview dosen't work anymore.
Caja is fast unusable with this issue!

Happened to me as well, Mint 17.3-64bit. Will try the workaround you suggest.

Well.. for me this happend too often.. This workaround don't work anymore on my system.
Even chaneging the "max opened files" value don't helps. This just extendes a bit the time before the system become completly choked by reaching the limits.

Too bad, I like caja very much.
Any recommendations about alternative files managers?

I would try pcmanfm first. It is the most 'standalone' and lightweight FM, and I use it in XFCE a lot.
If you do a lot of file renaming, install thunar which is the XFCE FM. For unknown reasons no other FM has included this great feature (sorry, not familiar with KDE). It would probably be dangerous to uninstall caja, just tweak the names in the .desktop files to avoid confusion. :)

A little OT, I've been looking at MATE 1.14 in LMDE and it looks very good. See Martin's blog http://mate-desktop.org/blog/ - a ton of progress is being made.

Also, the X-apps are working well and should appear in LM 18. Not sure if it is technically practical to merge caja and nemo into one down the road.
Use the Panels, Luke! (not just the Whisker Menu)
XFCE and Linux Mint 19 LTS - stable, easily configurable goodness.

Thanks Mike.
Yes, I will keep on using caja but I like to have a backup fm. I used to have gnome commander on Mint13, now that I have changed to Mint 17.3 might try new things as well. Hope they solve this issue in caja, though.
And I wonder how LXDE has Mate 1.14 and Mint Mate has Mate 1.12 :( . Hope we get these improvements soon as well.
