Compton not listed in Desktop Settings

Post by Chapu » Wed Jul 06, 2016 5:51 pm

Hey, all.

I've been experiencing severe screen tearing while playing videos and games for a while now, so when I saw that Compton was added in the changelog to 17.3 I decided to upgrade (I think I was in 17.1 before, but I don't really remember). Anyway, when I go to Desktop Settings, Windows tab, I don't have the option to use Compton. All I have listed is Marco, Marco + Compositing (the one I've been using since always), Metacity, Metacity + Compositing, and Compiz. Actually, the window itself does not look at all like the screenshot in the changelog here: https://www.linuxmint.com/pictures/scre ... esktop.png

You can see what my current Desktop Settings->Windows window looks like now: http://imgur.com/JNUjVxr

My sys info is:
Release Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa 64-bit
Kernel Linux 3.18.3-031803-generic x86_64
MATE 1.12.0

What am I missing here?

It does not show up in mine either. However it shows up in 18. I have no idea why that is. :(

Wild guess: maybe Compton itself isn't installed?
