Thanks Robert, worked well here with Mint 18. I had removed the old one from the panel before doing as you described, and then added it back on after installing the deb, it and worked like a charm.

Cheers

@fruitkiller here's the complete weather app replace these with the ones from yours. this is for 64bit mint mate so if you run 32 bit i can't help you there
trytip wrote:sorry guys didn't think to include the xml geographical locations, here they are. since my location didn't change i just assumed it would work with the old one, but after testing a few locations i saw i got a blank. it's complete now but i have no clue how to make it a .deb file so i just copied the most important parts

here are the complete files with xml locations (had to compress each one by hand)

You're welcome buddy! Glad to hear.... it's a small something that you get used to. When I found that fix I figured I should share it since I figured I'm not the only person wondering what was going on.... ;)

Why can't you guys just compile the latest release version on github? I'm pretty sure it already has the patches...

So, am I mistaken in thinking that their will be an update release that will correct what the weather app. is lacking? I'm in no hurry, and can surely wait for an update, but I just want to make sure that it's coming.

Um, I take it that my assumption is a great big NO, so I guess I'll try what was suggested above.

Hey! Excellent! I just downloaded the tarball to a folder called libmateweather, extracted it, and copied the 2 files to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. Within less than a minute, I received messages about the 'date' and 'weather' applets needing reloaded. I clicked 'reload' and both began working again!
Great tip! A reboot was not even necessary!
My wife and I sorely missed the weather applet. Das ischt Wunderbar to have it back again. Danke!

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmateweather.so.1

That worked on LMDE2 (Mate), despite the fact that some locations are missing.

When I expanded the file I also noted another share folder was created. Is that also needed to be copied over somewhere?

What is the correct folder? A bit more detail would come in real handy.

follow the file structure ... if my file has a usr/share folder then you put it in your usr/share. it will say merge into your folders. but again it's a good idea to vackup your files first. it's overwhelming copying into root and i didn't copy the icons

I saw that libmateweather was one of the recent upgrades. Let it up upgrade ... still couldn't change my location. So decided to reinstall ... still no changes. Then decided to manually remove files and reinstall ... a royal mess. I even lost my panel for a bit. Now the panel has been restored, the files for libmateweather appear to be there -- but Weather Report no longer shows up as an install option in "Add to Panel."

I would be happy to get back where I was ... did I delete something in the applet list? Sorry for being an idiot.

Update: I should mention that Clock also still crashes when I go to preferences. It just asks if I want to reload it.

Update 2: I should mention -- it may have been libgweather that I saw and jumped the gun.

Update 3: I updated my laptop -- it WAS libgweather, not libmateweather that I saw in the update list. So I guess I jumped the gun.
