Compiz on GNOME

Post by sourwire » Mon Apr 30, 2007 12:32 am

Hello, I'm really trying to get Compiz to install, but it won't. First, I extracted the package, then, I opened the terminal right in that folder, typed in

Code: Select all

./config
Next, just like the instructions said, I typed in

Code: Select all

make
but it doesn't work! And

Code: Select all

sudo make
doesn't work either and

Code: Select all

sudo make install
doesn't work either. Nothing works. Please help!

More info please.
what error messages do you get from the failed make command?
or does it return nothing?

if the first make does not work the make install definitely will not.

Code: Select all

make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
I also took a screenshot if it helps...

could be wrong, but is not heliodor the gnome decorator and aquamerine the kde decorator?

I get lib depency problem with
kdelibs4c2a (>=4:3.5.5-1) but 4:3.5.5-0ubuntu3.4
when using synaptics to try and install aquamerine

then beryl 3.0+git running nicely here

that tells me there is no Makefile present in that directory.
it looks like your in the wrong directory...

I'm not trying to sound crazy but...
if you do a listing of that directory is there a config and Makefile?
just because sometimes when you extract a tared or compressed file they have 2 directories of the same name under each other (crazy i know).
so the directory you are meant to may be one lower.

nope thats for beryl, compiz has the ability to use the native window themes. or its own window decorator called cgwd

to get compiz on edgy you can use gandalfs repository

3 Makefiles, still doesn't work.

The directory that I'm in contains 3 Makefiles: one is called Makefile.am, then Makefile.in and Makefile.am.in. I tried dragging different files into the Terminal windows and config is the only one that's working. But I need 'make'.
