Changing icon or color on the right side panel

Post by Pepi »

notificationarea.png
I'm running LMDE2 with the newest MATE. I would like to change the sound level control from black to white on my lower panel (using a darker theme now). You can't right-click and see a 'properties' like some of the panel icons? Anyway to change the color to white? Would not mind to have a fancy speaker icon either

This is defined by icon theme which can be set in the appearance preferences.
Do you mean some icons don't react to that?

Yeah I know they change with the icon theme but I like the 'yellow' folders and black is all I get with this new version on MATE. I was hoping there is a script that could be edited to change the color. Oh well, I'll just get use to it.

I take that back. The icon doesn't change with each icon theme? It just stay simple and BLACK

Ok, I see it in volume control icon. Thought we already fixed that... but no, it happens in both Mint 18.2 and LMDE.
I'll try to fix it.

For now, you can use a few workarounds to make it react to a new icon theme:
- mute and then unmute the sound (middle-click on the icon)
- resize the panel until the icon size changes, then resize it back
- restart the session

You can see the same behavior with network applet icon too... this one happens only in LMDE due to old version of nm-applet. This one we're not able to fix as we don't develop or maintain it.

Should be fixed now with mate-media update to 1.18.2.
