LightDM lock screen random activation

I am running Mint 18.2 Mate 64 bit edition and at seemingly random intervals get a lock screen appearing, which research shows me is from LightDM. It does not have the correct users for the system shown so can't login to unlock. i have screen locking settings turned of so why am I getting this. Anyones help would be appreciated

sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
