After recent update from Mint 18.1 to 18.2 using the update manager, I have no desktop after a reboot of the laptop. I get the mouse cursor, graphical login screen for Name and Password okay, I get the popup that I have connection to the internet, and then the screen stays black. Only the mouse cursor is present. The only other response is the shutdown-restart notification when I push the power button. Mate is the desktop.
The only way I can get messages from the boot process is to boot using the recovery option and log in as root in non-graphical mode.
