Marco Metacity Compositing - which take less resources

Post by urdrwho »

In desktop Mate 17.03 settings I see that there are multiple window manager options. Marco, Metacity, Composting and mixtures of them are available. I was just wondering which took the least and most GPU resources?

I don't see such options on my Cinnamon installs.

I think that Composting is the most environment friendly way of getting rid of things.

Compositing is heavy. If you disable it you'll have less visual effects, but generally less use of system resources and also improved stability. For those reasons I always disable it.

You can also disable it in Cinnamon:

That is what I was thinking because back in the years I used Kubuntu KDE compositing took a lot of resources.
