I'm using a freshly installed Linux Mint 18.3 Mate (kernel 4.10.0-42-generic).
Caja refuses to preview text files.

Same behaviour here. It still works in 18.1, though only for plain text files.
If you think the issue is solved, edit your original post and add the word solved to the title.
