Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has developed a printer applet for Mate like https://github.com/linux-man/cinnamon-printers ?
Thanks,
Dion

Hello Dion and Welcome to Linux Mint Forums,
I have not seen that sort of thing for mate. Depending on the printer your using. Mine are all HP's you may be able get what you want from the printer itself.
with hp's you and use hplip-gui (installable from the repository) and if you install your printer via that app it will give a nice tray Icon and offers many options for the printer will keep tray of ink and other functions as well.
good luck in your search.

Re: Printer applet for Linux Mint Mate.
the general run of printers:
- Epson
- Cannon
- HP
- Brother
can usually be installed, without too many issues.
- even the WiFi can be got working, which is great.
maybe not the scanning over WiFi - not yet anyway.

Thanks for the fast replies.
The printer is a Brother HL-2030. I can print to it just fine, but don't have a tray icon showing the status or the ability to link to the print cue from within Mate. In Cinnamon it's fine.
There is obviously something else wrong, as I can't get to the printer setup from the menu. Nothing happens when I click it.
I tried that hplip-gui to see if it can control the Brother, but it's based on Qt and I am pretty sure Qt is just for Gnome3 and Gnom2 (Mate) runs on GTK?
There must be something left over from Gnome2.
I found http://localhost:631/printers/ which works great, but this machine is for a normal user and I don't want to complicate things for her.

Looking into it further and seeing what's written on other forum posts, it seems that http://localhost:631/printers/ is a good way of doing things. For the normal user I just created a desktop link or taskbar applet and they can manage their print jobs from there.
