Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
Right-Mouse-Click in 18.3 Mate...
What is the deal with this Hold - Drag to selection and then release mouse button??
I HATE it!! I just want to click the right mouse button and then select and click.
How do I change this to work like all other GUI's?
I would RATHER be running KDE, but my older pc cannot run it due to it consuming
more resources than Its got. I'm planning to upgrade soon,
But then I heard Mint is considering eliminating the KDE desktop from its line-up. Is
this TRUE?? I hope Not!!

Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
It's beyond considering, it's been decided. There will not be a Mint 19 KDE. But you will be able to install Mint 19 XFCE and then install the KDE desktop environment on top of that.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!
Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
OK COOL!
But do you know what I can do for now with Mate's right-mouse-click?
It's already caused several issues for me, even when writing an email.
It deleted half my text when I simply tried pasting a link in the subject
area!

Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
Nope, sorry... I'm not familiar with Mate, at all. But someone will know.

How to bring a window to the front in MATE?
I just installed Mint MATE and found if I have a few windows open, like browsers.,, I click on the icon in the panel
like other GUI's to attempt to bring the currently open window to the forefront, but it simply opens ANOTHER
browser window rather than bringing the currently open window to the forefront. WHAT?? How do I bring a window
to the forefront on MATE?

Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
Something is the matter on your end. Is this system wide or just one specific program? Are you using a normal mouse or a laptop touchpad?
On MATE it doesn't automatically select items in the context (right-click) menu unless one keeps the mouse button held down and moves it into the menu and releases it over an item in the menu. If one just clicks and releases the mouse button to open the context menu, no item is automatically selected. I don't think there is a setting to make it do that either.

The icons to the right of the menu button are quick launchers. The window list is to the right of that.
Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
I'm on a DELL Opti-Plex 760 with an AMD 3400 series graphics card
and 4 gb of mem and an 160 SSD.
It does not do this in all apps... but in both Firefox and Chromium browsers.
But any program I open does not produce any buttons in the panel, so I
assume I need to re-click on the icon in the panel... though it does open a
new session of the program each time I click on the icon.
.
Oh and YES, it is a normal wireless mouse that I've had for a couple of years.

Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
Try resetting the panel to default to see if that will bring back the normal window list. Open the terminal program from your menu and run this command:
It should reload the panel immediately to default. If not, after running the command and not getting any error, log out and log back in.
mate-panel --reset

Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
Check the mouse itself. See if the contacts are clean. Sometimes, the problem is hardware not software.
Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
Suggest you boot into a live USB/CD version of the distro to see if you're running into the same issues. If not, probably easiest to do a clean install because something seems seriously messed up on your end, what you are seeing is obviously not intended behaviour. If you've got the same issues on the live USB then it's likely a hardware/driver issue of some sort which a different DE is unlikely to fix (although by all means give it a try).
Re: Right-Mouse-Click in Mate and KDE Version Dying??
Right click on the panel and select "add to panel" then scroll down to "windows list" and add that. This will give you buttons for minimized windows.
When all else fails follow the instructions

Live USB/CD is a good idea. Will quickly show if it's hardware or software issue.gm10 wrote: ⤴Thu Jun 21, 2018 5:32 pm Suggest you boot into a live USB/CD version of the distro to see if you're running into the same issues.
