Small screen vs big non-scrollable/non-resizable windows

Post by polla »

Hi there,

I've just installed Linux Mint MATE on my Asus Eeepc (11" screen). I am a bit pissed off since some of the menus in the Control Center are waaay bigger than my screen and is't not possible to resize them or scroll them.

What do I do?

Then the screen size of your Eee is probably below the stated minimum requirements for Mint. But not to worry: when you press and hold the alt-key, you can grab and drag the window.

Have you tried any other distros? (non-Mint) ?

I had a Asus Eeepc but I gifted it a couple years ago. Nice units.
I was able to overcome that resolution problem, don't remember the details.

It's also a theme question. Depending on the theme the window in the screenshot has a height of:

Mint-Y: 623 pixels
Mint-X: 635 pixels
Arc: 595 pixels

Considering your vertical screen resolution of 600 pixels, with the Arc theme the window would fit (if you also set your panel to auto-hide, as you probably should with such a small screen).

I'm sure there are even more compact themes. Arc Darc is just the theme I'm usually using, that's why I used it as an example.

Thanks for all your answers. I'll try changing the theme and I will let you know.
