Menus appear much above where should be

Post by Chrisj01 »

Hey, on LM 19.1 and kernel 4.15, MATE 1.20.

Cannot upload screenshot of exact issue with menus as cannot take screen shot whilst one of the menus is open, but if you take a look at the image below, the menus open up by there. I have dual monitors, the one of right is 1920x1080 and the one of the left is 2560x1440. And the menus open on the left monitor as if it is 1080p. I have searched around but cannot find any recent issues, found some issues from years ago but did not want to follow the resolutions on there as they're for old versions, and just wanted to double check if anyone here knows how to solve it simply before attempting elaborate fixes for old versions of Mint.

Screenshot: Image

Any help appreciated.

So as an idea: Check the mate-display-properties to see if the smaller monitor (right) is selected as the main screen. If yes, try selecting the larger monitor (left) as the main screen.

Thanks, yeah I already checked that the larger one is set as the primary monitor. This issue is not a massive issue it just is a pain in the backside and looks silly.

What happens if you delete the menu item on the smaller monitor?

Well - those were suggestions from a lazy mouse user.
You probably have some invisible entries in your desktop configuration (the things behind the dot/period/point...) that need to be changed.
The gurus of Terminal commands are once again in demand...

That's Mount Aso in Japan. As to the issue, if it's an option you could see if arranging the screens in display properties so they are bottom-aligned doesn't solve this. That aside it's probably an issue particular to your menu bar, at least I had no luck reproducing with the standard menu.

Yes, this issue does not occur for me with the default menu, it only occurs with the other two options in the "add to panel" selection.

I can confirm that rearranging the displays so that they are bottom-alligned DOES "fix" the issue, thanks!. But I have used top aligned for many many years and find it so much more useful, i.e. when moving windows inbetween monitors and other day to day things. So if anyone know how to fix fix the issue let me know, otherwise I will have to weigh up which is more annoying, not having top aligned monitors or the menu appearing above where it should.

Thanks
