using "search" and found many files with the same name

Post by Vilsen »

I have a serious problem:

My cameraconstruction department did not anticipate that when filming you do not want the same
name of files created and stored on the memorycard every time you empty the card and format it.

Filenames of pictures are unique though.

So, what happened is that I have a lot of files in my harddrive with exactly the same name but with
different content.

I did a SEARCH of my HD and got a list as a result , I then marked ALL and started copying to another subdirectory .

Every time there was a match , everything stopped and a dialoguebox appeared with the question:

THE FILENAME EXISTS ALREADY , what do you want to do ?

Skip ? - not meaningful
Rename ? - a terribly option , not meaningful at all
RENAME ?

yes , that works !!

BUT: this is happening almost all the time and after many hours I gave up.

There must be a smarter way !
I really do not like windows but there is an option to give a dubblette the name + (1), (2) and so on.

AUTOMATICALLY !

Why can't I find that in MINT ?:?:

I need to copy ALL files found in SEARCH-list !

But when names are the same: give them the name plus an incremental number.

Thats all neeed.

THANKS !
