mouse buttons in 19 vs 18

Post by elmarts » Mon Apr 22, 2019 12:44 pm

I've recently upgraded from 18.e to 19, and find that the mouse button behavior has changed. IN 18, when I hold down both mouse buttons on a file, I could move it to another folder. This capability seems to have vanished in 19. I have to cut, then paste. Where is the setting to get the windows equivalent right mouse button functionality back? Thanks.

*sigh* no answer :( "right click" move functionality has been eliminated it seems, and no-one cares.

Which desktop environment?

In Nemo's context menu you may need to expand the context menu to see the move to and copy to options. This is done by clicking the small + button on the first entry.

Left click and drag and press Alt before release will give you options as to whether you want to move, copy or create a symlink. The middle click (or both button click) function has gone.

Oops just realised you have posted in the MATE section. My bad .... Not near a MATE machine right now to double check what works there.

Edit to add - so the behaviour is similar in Caja - left click and drag to move, left click and drag holding alt key on release to pick Move, Copy or Link.

Right click context menu options for move to and copy to are very limited in Caja - but you might find this post helpful viewtopic.php?f=206&t=294021

that works! click-hold, then hold alt and drag, then release and the popup appears. Thanks. Why the right click is no longer parsed is beyond me, but whatever.

It's a shame that drag and drop with middle mouse button (mouse wheel) is not available any more. I've used it a lot. Yes, I can you alt button, but I don't get why this feature was removed. I find it more comfortable to not need to use the keyboard.
