19.2 Mate on a 26" screen

Post by Jeremydog1 » Mon Sep 02, 2019 6:07 am

I am struggling to get the desktop to fit my Technika 26" size TV/Monitor as its too big for the screen HD size is 1920x1080,I have the correct Nvidia driver installed and have a choice of sizes from 1920 down to 640 none will fit the monitor. Can anyone advise whether its possible to shrink the Desktop to fit the screen.BTW have tried windows 7 and that fits no problem, why is linux problematical? Thanks :(

How is this a problem of Linux if your TV doesn't scale correctly? Make sure you configure your TV to use that input port you have the Linux system connected to in PC/computer mode, otherwise due to overscan on TV signals often part of the input isn't shown, which sounds like what you're experiencing.

I know that some TV sets fail to auto-detect the input type correctly so you've got to set the mode on the HDMI port in the TV's settings.

Beyond that I cannot think of anything else that could be wrong, or why it works correctly with Win7 (different refresh rate configured maybe?) - your Linux OS isn't responsible for the scaling on the TV set, it simply sends the digital information through the HDMI link, the TV has got to render it correctly.

I had the same problem with my Sony TV, and the solution described here worked for me:
