Xorg freezing focus Mate on 19.2

Post by japhering » Fri Sep 06, 2019 11:07 am

I'm running Mate on 19.2, fully updated. An since 19.0 came out I've run into the situation where Xorg gets confused with overlapping windows.

Normally, where I get bitten is in a virtual desktop, I have an instance of the latest Chrome and the latest Brave running. Without warning, the focus gets
locked to one of them ( typically, the run underneath) and every keystroke, button press goes to the system chosen window.

I can't switch desktops, can't chance the stacking order, and can't change the tab with the browser.

Originally, it would last < 10 seconds, but now it can last up to 10 minutes (normally, it lasts 2-3 minutes).

Any thoughts on how to diagnose the problem or mitigate the situation when it happens?
