[solved] no window manager and control center

Post by pablok »

Dear members,

On 64b Linux Mint Mate 19.1 on my older laptop I had problems with the borders of windows and button icons (max, min, resize etc).
Today, I thought maybe upgrading to 19.2 would solve these problems. I upgraded by terminal because there was no upgrade path offered in Update Manager.
After upgrading I still had missing borders and buttons. Later I discovered that the Control Center was not working either.

I decided to install xfwm4 because I had found a familiar command

Code: Select all

xfwm4 --replace
to solve the window problems. But this command needs to be kept running. If I close the terminal window, immediately the situation turns back as it was before - without the window buttons and border.

Any idea what can be done to better this behaviour?

T.i.a.

peter

P.S.: Both on 19.1 and 19.2 the system complained I had probably no window manager running??

Open a full-screen terminal window and enter the command inxi -Fxz. Post the results back here (inside of code tags for easier reading).

Have you considered doing a complete reinstall of the OS?

Thank you for the reaction.
I solved the problem. Did not realise that I had to login on Xfce and no longer on Mate.
