Caja. How to change zoom level?

Post by bwe »

Like you can see, default zoom level in this picture is 100%.

How can I change zoom to 40%, or 70%, or any other number?

Now, when I right click, I can only select 33%, 50%, 67%, 100%, 150%, 200%, 400%.

You cannot configure custom zoom levels.

that sucks. Going from 200 to 400 is lame too. Plus all that area around the thumbnails while the actual thumbnail is not all that much bigger. But apparently this does not bother anyone working on MATE.

Personally no, because I'm not even using icon view. You could request arbitrary zoom levels over at https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues.

Variant A: Donate a lot of money to the MATE development team, taking into account your very personal design wishes.
Variant B: Hire a programmer to carry out your ideas.
Variant C: do it yourself
Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia (Mate) 32-bit - Acer D250 Netbook (Intel Atom N270, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB SSD)
Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa (Mate) 64-bit - MacBook Pro 15" (Intel Core2 Duo, 8 GB RAM, 240 GB SSD) - with some separation difficulties...

For some reason I have a compact representation of the previews in 100%, 200% or 400% in the Pictures folder, but hell, not in the Downloads folder.
The setting "use compact layout" in the preferences is marked.
Controlled, restarted, but Caja is stubborn ...

The MATE team obviously needs a donation ...

Variant D: live with, nothing's perfect

thanks gm10.
absque fenestris, yeah, I'm employing variant D a lot nowadays :)
I kinda hate to say it but in this regard, Windows slays linux. The file manager was my main go to, I'd set up the columns in a music folder for bit rate, artist, even album. Of course it only applied to that folder. In pictures folders it was dimensions, date taken, etc. Variant D has me learning several programs at once trying to do what one did in Windows. I like Pix, but it crashes or FREEZES a LOT. At this point I'm using gthumb mostly, irfanview when I can (sadly the browser in Irfanview does NOT work, it was a good way of getting an overview), and exploring one someone suggested called xnView. Hopefully at some stage I'll get it down to one or two.
