Side panel in MATE

Post by mr_raider »

IS it possible to configure your panel to be on the side in MATE? I can do it in XFCE and KDE, but in MATE the clock time is sideways, and the task manager is borked.

Yes.
Right click on a free space in your panel
Click on Properties
Select top, bottom, left, right as you prefer.

also!
Right click on a free space in your panel
select Help for a large menu that should explain how Panels work in Mate

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I can set it as side panel. Except nothing renders right. The clock time is sideways. The task manager buttons are just wrong.

The Mate apps are designed for bottom or top panels.
You can adjust the width/depth of any panel to accommodate the fixed dimensions of the app. I do that for a couple I use.
I see that 62 pixles will accommodate the clock.

Autohide and expand are also handy options.
...
Beyond my expertise, but you can dig into the code of the app and modify...
Or ask for a feature request. The Mate developers are numerous and very active. Check the Mate Desktop website for the location to post... I don't have it on my phone.

Hope I am being helpful this time
