Change left button drag to copy instead of move?

Post by jharris1993 »

Greetings!

One of the things that absolutely frustrate me (in many operating systems) is that the left-button drag behavior is "move" instead of "copy".

I would like to change that default behavior as, (IMHO), move is a "destructive" process, erasing the file in the source directory. I would like to make the default "copy" unless I explicitly request a move by pressing a key like "shift" or something.

Can do?

Thanks!

you can also R/click - - copy - - paste - - an file.

what happens, if you hold the SHIFT Key whilst you drag with the mouse ?

Holding Ctrl while drag and drop = copy

All of that stuff works as expected - shift-drag = copy.

But that's not what I am asking for. I want drag-release = copy and shift-drag-release = move.

in other words, I want to make the default drag-and-drop action to be copy instead of move.

The problem is this:
I have two folders open. One with a s-load of files and the other that contains, (among other things), a few files I want to copy to the first folder to update a few things.

I grab them, drag them, drop them and blammo! I've moved the files and they are now buried in a haystack of other files.

The tiny little overlay icon is EXTREMELY difficult for me to see, and it is virtually impossible for me to see visually if I am copying or moving without getting within about 6" of the screen.

I want to avoid this by making the default drag-and-drop action a COPY. I can always delete the source files later if I want.

Well it should be doable, the default d&d action is 'Move' only within the same
partition, other places the default action is 'Copy' so there is a software switch.
