Multiple Monitors

I started with Mint Mate 18 and am now in 20.1

I find the GUI Monitor Manger lacking since Mate 18

moving the monitors leaves trails all over

then the Primary Desktop Icons end up on the Secondary or Tertiary Monitor

IMO the Mate Desktop with multiple monitors still needs a lot of work

and once the Desktop Icons disappeared until reboot

Are you using the same version of Maté in each Mint release (18 & 20.1)? If not, then the difference you see is a Maté controlled issue (not Mint). If the issue is Maté controlled, you should contact the Maté devs to let them know your concern(s). The only Mint developed desktop is Cinnamon, so far as I know.
