(Solved) Photo Icon problem

Post by dsc3507 »

Sovled at least for me. Remove all files in your home directory .cache/thumbnails/fail, then restart - caja -q

I am new to Mint 20.04 Mate, but I have been running Ubuntu Mate since 14.04. Previously when I connected my camera and uploaded my photos they appeared in the directory window and created thumbnail icons of the actual photos by reading the photo files. Mint seems to not do that until I actually view a photo and then it decides to create the thumbnail. So if I went through and viewed all the photos and then reloaded it would show the icons. For some reason it is not downloading the entire set and displaying it at start. This is really hokey. Also Ubuntu mate remembered what I had previously loaded and recreated the icons when loading later. Has something changed in this regard? What use are thumbnails if you have to view the photo and reload to see them. They are supposed to show you a preview before you open the file.

OK, I found this youtube video fix... Is this the problem? Seems it is a common thunar problem in xcfe that I would have thought to be fixed by now.

And apparently this is a more complex problem as evidenced here ....

It would be nice if anyone has a fix that works for Linux Mint Mate 20.04 and does not screw things up.
