[SOLVED] Moving panel with drag does not work

Post by kneejo »

I'm running my main screen with my Nvidia card and my second screen is on Intel integrated graphics.

In every tutorial about moving panels they mention that dragging them with the mouse moves them to another screen. But in my case that doesn't work. I want the main panel on the second screen. Making the second screen primary solves this but some games get confused and launch on the second (now primary) screen.

In short, why can't I drag a panel to the other screen? Is it related to using both NVIDIA and Intel?

Try simple things first before taking the computer apart.

Can you right-click an 'empty' part on the taskbar you are looking to move.
Select 'Panel Edit Mode' = enable.
Then drag it.
Right-click it it is where you want it, and select 'Panel Edit Mode' = disable

Update: figured out that adding a second panel works. I can drag that to the second screen with holding Alt. Apparently the primary panel can not be dragged to the second screen. Marking as solved as I will play with the options I have now. But would like to know if I'm overlooking something.

I'm looking to move the default, primary panel to the second screen. I did not find Panel Edit Mode when I right click. I am on MATE if that makes a difference.

Ok, got it working now with 2 panels, one on each screen. Only thing I can't seem to move to the second screen is the indicators of volume, networking and update manager. They don't seem to be a movable panel element.

Edit: fixed. It's called the Xapp Status Applet :)

So I answered my own question, which I hope is okay. Someone else might have the same problem and my answer can help them.
