Hi, I'm running Mint Mate 20.3 with MATE v. 1.26.0. It uses Mate panel v 1.26.1
I prefer using Mate panel as my dock over all other docks like Plank, Cairo, Latte (yech - ton of KDE bloat comes with it!)
Mate panel is very low overhead and quick. If I uncheck "expand" in properties I have a screen centered dock just like all the others. It's easy to add any menu items to it without all the overhead and fiddle of "docks". I can tweak the background to whatever I like. The only thing missing is the zoom (magnify?) of an item when I mouse over it, but that's just eye-candy, so no functional loss. I really don't get all the hoo-ha about a separate dock, but to-each-his-own is the magic of Linux, right!
I am looking for additional applets to add to the Mate panel. I'd really like one I've see on one of the "docks" that allows quickly traversing the files hierarchy right from the panel (sound familiar?) A link directly to a specific folder would be really helpful (maybe use custom application launcher?) Has anyone seen additional applets for Mate panel? Can other panel's applets be used by Mate panel?
Thanks for any help tricking out Mate panel.

Re: Mate Panel Enhancements/Applets
Bump, really, there are no applets that can be added to the Mate panel, beyond stock??

Hi,
You may have a look here:

If you right-click on mate panel, you can add applets.
In Synaptic you can select and install some Caja extensions.
You can use compiz as windows manager.
Finally, you will find a guide to customize Mate desktop here: https://itsfoss.com/ubuntu-mate-customization/

Very easy...A link directly to a specific folder would be really helpful (maybe use custom application launcher?)
Right click on panel. Choose Add to Panel, Custom Application Launcher.
Provide a path to whatever folder you want displayed in the Command field.
Example:
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/caja /PATH/TO/FOLDER
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/caja /home/<USER-NAME>/Pictures
Select a custom icon if you wish. Type Pictures in the name field. Optional, you can also type a short description in the Comment field.
What do I think about Window$??? Just take a look at my AVATAR...
