How to copy Menu entries from 20.3 to 21?

Post by etoimene »

I added some submenu to my old machine and would like to have the same one without a lot of typing (15 entries).

Any idea?

EDIT:
Looks like
https://wiki.mate-desktop.org/mate-desk ... ions/mozo/ and
https://github.com/mate-desktop/mozo

have the answer. :)

Or, even better, https://specifications.freedesktop.org/ ... c-1.0.html

EDIT:
New menu items are created at /home/<user>/.local/share/applications.
I'll try to copy from there, to see where will that get me. :)

I'm loving that you updated your post with information. Hope you get back to us when you've got it sorted. This is no doubt going to help other people.

BTW, '/usr/share/applications' (global) and '~/.local/share/applications' (local) are not strictly for menu items themselves, but the '*.desktop' files are used by software like menus and launchers. They just make it easier for programs to know what primary (usually GUI) programs are available, with descriptions, fancy names, translations, icons, a specific command, etc. If you open up a '*.desktop' file, you'll perhaps have a better idea what I mean.
I'm also Terminalforlife on GitHub.

Still working on this. Seems it is not that simple.
