I'm stuck in MATE without panel

Post by fernbap » Fri Nov 18, 2011 5:49 pm

I wanted to try mate, and for some reason the panel disappeared after i added mint menu to it.
The problem is that i have autologin enabled and can't logout because ctrl-alt-bksp doesn't work.
I don't know how either disable autologin or make the panel appear, as everything is not familiar at all. There isn't even a gdm under /etc.
So, i'm completely stuch with a non-functional desktop...

If you can open a terminal, try this:

Code: Select all

sudo /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-set-defaults -s gnome-shell
And restart.
Thank you for this thread. That’s all I can say. You most definitely have made this forum into something special. You clearly know what you are doing, you’ve covered so many bases. Thanks!

Thanks. That didn't work, but i managed to edit lightdm.conf and remove the autologin user.
Anyway, i would like to know how to return MATE to its fresh install status. I suspect it has to do with adding the mint menu or adding some metacity themes.

Try deleting the Mate folders, like '.mate2', '.mate2_private', '.mateconf' and '.mateconfd'.
