LM12 locks up instead of hibernate

Post by kbkatz1 »

I'm running LM12 "Lisa" Cinnamon DE on my Inspiron 6000. It runs well although about 1/3 of the time the computer will lockup and freeze if it goes into screensaver mode or if I try to hibernate. The only way to unlock it is to do a hard shutdown and restart with the power button. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

You probably installed one of those crappy graphic card drivers that don't let you sleep or hibernate. Could you type this in a terminal and post here the output?

Code: Select all

inxi -Gx
and

Code: Select all

lspci
Cheers. Danko.

EDIT: Sorry, wrong capitalization; now fixed ;)

Well, for starters, your card is uncompatible with Linux (ATI stopped releasing drivers for it in 2008 if I'm not wrong). I see a mention of the ATI drivers there (How did you install that?) but that shouldn't be happening; did the "Additional Drivers" app pup a menu asking to install ATI drivers?

Cheers. Danko.

Danko,

The video drivers were part of the standard install of LM12 'Lisa' on this laptop. I'm not sure if my periodic lockup/freeze is related to that or not, because it hasn't happened for a while now.

Not sure what you are talking about.
AMD makes updated drivers for Linux.
This one is dated 8/15/2012.

---------------

Go to http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/l ... ng=English and you can download the latest driver for the x300 for Linux.

"Products Supported

AMD has moved a number of DX9 ATI Radeon™ graphics accelerators products to a legacy driver support structure. This change impacts Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Linux distributions. AMD has moved to a legacy software support structure for these graphics accelerator products in an effort to better focus development resources on future products.

The following products have been moved to the legacy software support structure (including Mobile and All-in-Wonder Variants):
