Volume too low even at 100% and volume step size too big

Postby lunatico » Wed Jul 25, 2012 10:46 am

Hello,

I have Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon 32-bit installed on a Thinkpad W520.

I've noticed the volume is too low even when it's set to 100%. I know I can go into Sounds (Menu -> System Settings -> Sound) and manually slide it higher than 100%. But it just seem like the output at 100% is very low, I'm sure on other distros it would be higher.

Is there a way to modify/fix this?

The other thing I've noticed is that volume step size is too big, on MATE and Ubuntu is is possible to change this using gconf-editor or the mateconf-editor. But I could not find such setting on dconf-editor. Is it hiden somewhere?

Thanks!

Use the command

Code: Select all

alsamixer

To make sure you haven't got anything turned down that shouldn't be (you use the arrow keys to move around and change things in the interface).

Yes I have tried alsamixer too. Everything there is all the way up.

Code: Select all

pacmd set-sink-volume 0 30000
Your index number may be other than 0. The volume can range from 0 (0%) to 65537 (100%), and can be greater than 100%. I don't know what the maximum possible number is, but on my system it's greater than my ears want to experience.

This works on Linux Mint Mate 64bit. Your results may differ.

It doesn't matter if everything is turned all the way up, if it says MM at the bottom the channel is muted whatever your other volume indicators think.
