Scrollbar and Titlebar settings in Cinnamon

Post by benettfreeman »

There are two things I would like to do. Any help is much appreciated.

1. On virtually every OS I have ever run, clicking on the scrollbar below the current position of the slider will make the window scroll down by one page. However, Cinnamon on Nadia causes the slider to go to that exact location in the scroll. For instance, clicking at the halfway point will take me there. I want to be able to set it so that wherever I click below the slider, it will merely move one page down. Is this possible please?

2. Is there a way of removing the title bar on certain maximised windows? I want to be able to run the window for the ProjectM plugin in QMMP so that the title bar isn't there. I run this window on a workspace that is displayed on a 42" TV so I can watch visualisations for my music on a big screen. Only problem is, whatever I do the title bar is still there, showing 'ProjectM' and the Min/Max/Close buttons. Kinda detracts from the visualisations. Anyone know how to do this? It seems in Gnome 3 one just edits the XML file in the usr/share/themes/<theme> folder but there is nothing in cinnamon.css that refers to this.

Thanks

Ben

You know, I've been wondering about that myself, for quite some time. The behaviour you describe belonged to the middle mouse click, not to the left one: it's been changed in GTK3, it seems, so that now you have that behaviour with the left click, *but* only for GTK3 applications, not for GTK2 ones (try Synaptic) or other "gtkfied" applications like Firefox and Thunderbird, where you have "one page down" with a left click and "move to this point" with a middle click.

This makes the desktop feel quite inconsistent, and is one of my major gripes with the Cinnamon desktop at the moment (the others being the constant moving of columns in Nemo and the lack of a snap to grid feature for the desktop icons). Unfortunately, since this seems to be one of the many "improvements" to GTK3 I'm afraid there's little that can be done (correct me if I'm wrong). Try open an issue in github and let's see what the devs have to say about it.

I've found this issue: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/739 but as you can see it approaches the problem from the "I want the middle click back" angle, and it's been closed anyway.
