Unable to see any activated desklets

I got cinnamon up and running and I love it, but I can't seem to get any desklets working. Any time I try to activate a desklet, nothing happens. I also don't see any errors. I'm on Cinnamon 2.0.14 and on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I'm new to Linux in general, does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks.

Do you have the Screenlets Daemon checked in your Startup Applications list?

I have no such application in my startup applications. That would explain it. Where's the executable for creating it?

I don't know about Cinnamon, but in my MATE desktop I would go to:

System--->Preferences--->Startup Applications Preferences

To see if there are any errors in loading the desklets, right-click on the panel . Troubleshooting > Looking Glass > See the last tab Desklets whether they are loaded and also look into Errors post any errors.

I know how to configure a startup application. I meant what's the executable that starts the daemon?

I have been able to add desklets to my desktop in such a way that they don't appear on the desktop. I have a dual monitor configuration, and my Primary monitor is on the right. My primary monitor is taller than my secondary monitor (on the left). When the desklets appear on the desktop they take the position coordinates of 0,0, which is the upper top left corner. This creates a problem, because my secondary monitor on the left can not see this position.

Consider my ascii art, showing the two screens side by side with the unaccessable region above the secondary.

where the Unaccessable region is where the desklets get positioned by default. Thus to fix this for myself, I repositioned my secondary monitor such that it is adjacent to the top edge rather than the bottom.
