Random missing characters everywhere
I suddenly had this problem in the Tomboy program, and as noted, changed font - from Serif to Sans - and it went away. This was in Mint 18.3 so it's a persistent anomaly.

Same here. 18.3 missing "I". Changed to Sans and it came back. I didn't see any difference in fonts - what's the advantage of noto sans, anyway?
