How to preview files? [SOLVED]

Post by gibbs1984 »

On the new release of Linux Mint it says I can preview files by:
Nemo-preview is now installed by default. To preview a file, simply select it and press the space bar.
I've tried this will lots of different types of files but no preview ever happens, been searching Google and YouTube but can't even find an example of what it looks like.

Anyone else have this problem or managed to get it to work?

I cannot reproduce the problem.
Create a new user account and test there.

So previews work for you?

If I setup a new user can I delete it later, don't want to mess up my system?

OK, just created a new user, switched to that user, took a screenshot of my desktop, went to Nemo, clicked once on the file with my mouse then pressed the space bar and nothing happened.

Yes, with "cannot reproduce" I mean, that it works for me.

Open synaptic and select the package nemo-preview. It should be installed. If not, install it, otherwise try to re-install it. If done, press ctrl-alt-esc to restart Cinnamon and Nemo.

If you remove a user account (in Users & Groups), all related files and folders of that account get automatically deleted.

BTW: I happened to see your signature, when I was logged out from the forum. It is a fine example, why I exclude signatures in the settings of my forum user profile: They are senseless and often misleading. Remembering from the other thread I know, that you do not use 17.2. Such information belongs into the post, just as my answers do not belong into the signature.

Thanks, nemo-preview wasn't installed for some reason, installed it and now it works fine.
