Spotify in Mint 17.3

Post by oba123 »

I noticed a minor annoyance when launching Spotify after upgrading Mint Cinnamon from 17.2 to 17.3.

When starting the application, the window appears and I can interact with it but there is no entry in the panel. If I minimize the application, it will continue to run but the window is obviously gone and there is no way to restore it without an entry in the panel. I discovered a workaround which is (after first starting Spotify) to move the window to another workspace. Doing this will cause the entry to appear in the panel and it can be used normally.

Is anybody else affected by this issue?

Just found out that this was caused by having the setting "Show window thumbnails on hover" enabled in the Window list applet. This is the default setting with Cinnamon 2.8 but it appears to cause a slight issue with Spotify.

I disabled it and it's working normally again.

Thanks! That solved the issue for me.

Used alt-tab as a workaround, but this is so much better.

What version on Spotify are using, Windows Spotify using Wine or the Linux Preview?

I am using the Linux Preview with 17.3 Cinnamon and I have not had any issues.

I'm using the Spotify 1.x Beta version from the Spotify community blog, it doesn't have this issue and runs much smoother overall -
check https://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotif ... -p/1147084 for details.

Interesting! I think I'll stick with the stable release for now.

I'm also using that version. Its at version 1.0.19.106.gb8a7150f now. Can I ask if you did an upgrade or was it a clean install?

Did a clean Mint install recently (coming back from Manjaro Cinnamon Edition),
but I think I ran the "old" 0.9 Spotify one or two times before switching over the Beta PPA,
so Spotify- wise it was an update
