Cinnamon eating up RAM

Post by Gameranand » Wed Jul 27, 2016 12:32 pm

I am using Linux MInt Cinnamon Edition. It used to eat up just 100-120 MB RAM but just now I noticed that its eating up more than 250 MB RAM. I also tried restarting the Laptop but it started with Cinnamon eating 250 MB RAM. I don't quite understand what triggered it and how to solve it.

Cinnamon version - 3.0.6
Linux Kernel - 3.16.0-4
Processor - Intel Pentium N3540 2.16 GHz
RAM - 2 GB
IGP - Intel Atom Z36xxx/Z37xxx series

It looks as though you are running Linux Mint 17.2 (based on your kernel version) which came with Cinnamon version 2.6... but you have Cinnamon version 3.0 which wasn't released or used in any version of the LM17.x series... My guess is that the increase in RAM usage is related to your Cinnamon version. When did you make the jump from CIn 2.6 to 3.0??? And while I'm asking questions, how and why did you make that jump?

From the Cin 3.0 announcement on Segfault >>>
Full time Linux Mint user since 2011 - Currently running LM19 Cinnamon.

This seems to be an inplace-upgrade, not a fresh installation of LM 18, correct? This could(!) be the reason.

BTW: Your Cinnamon version is not up-to-date. I do not promise, that this gives the solution, but with a not-current Cinnamon it is rather uninteresting to dig deeper.
