Cinnamon crashes at each shutdown -LM18

Post by squid-f » Tue Aug 16, 2016 3:50 am

Hello

I made recently a fresh LM18 Cinnamon install.
I am not sure when it has started but I have Cinnamon crashing each time I shutdown my computer ; either using the shutdown button of the menu or the shutdown option proposed by the user applet close to the clock. I have never faced that with LM17.x
After clicking to shutdown, I get the pop-up window stating cinnamon switched to fail safe mode and whether I want to restart cinnamon. Then, after some time, the computer usually stops.

Has anyone face this already ? How to solve it ? What additional information would you need (I am not sure about which log file to look at and where...) ?

Thanks !

Hello

I used to have the same issue reported by twist. Actually, I got it no later than last week on a fresh install I made on my mam's laptop. Then, it seems it has disappeared. I have not inquired though.

I created a new user as recommended by Cosmo. The shutdown went well. Actually, I am a bit puzzled as the shutdown has no more issue on my account as well ! I can promise you it has been crashing for some time now at each session. However, I have now a cinnamon crash back when I click on an applet on the taskbar. The issue was twice in a row with the owncloud-client one.

Anything else I could do to help ?

Thanks for your support

Well, I need to correct myself : Cinnamon crashed again when I shutdown just after posting the previous note ! I was on my account.
It took maybe a little bit longer for cinnamon to crash after I clicked on the command.

Hi,

i was bugged from this. So i tried a very unscientific solution. I deinstalled everything with cinnamon in the package name. And then i reinstalled every thing immediately afterwards. I did both with Synaptic with no reboot. Since then its gone.

I can not recommend this to others. But my cinnamon works well since then.

Hi twist,

you confirm then there is potentially something to be done.

Does anyone want any log file from me ?

Edit : I confirm it happens to other users as well on the same computer.

Hi, i have same problem with shutdown. It's fresh installation of LM18 cinnamon.
I used LXLE before, but mint is more user friendly ;-]
Every time i want to shutdown -screen goes gray and freezes with mint logo.
Of course i can turn my pc off by holding power button but this doesn't solve my problem.
I have cinnamon with two monitors. Everything else seems to works fine.
I've already checked forum for all possibilities with no effect.
I prefer not to reinstall system ;-] As newbie i don't want to use every possible terminal commands.
Can someone ,more experienced help me and others with that issue?

This is my inxi report.

Hi, yesterday I've reinstalled whole cinnamon with complete wipe disk option and shutdown problem is still present.
I've even tried to disconnect second monitor and all usb hubs. Even this gave no positive results.
Funny thing is when i run cinnamon as live cd everything is fine including restart i complete shutdown.
