Cinnamon crashed, menu launcher disappeared...

Post by markfilipak » Sun Sep 11, 2016 7:13 pm

In the 'Accessories' menu, I highlighted the VirtualBox launcher.
I selected 'Cut' in the context menu.
In the 'Mark's Stuff' menu, I selected 'Paste' in the context menu.
Cinnamon immediately crashed and I elected to continue (I assume this is like Safe Mode in Windows).
I evoked the menu editor once again.
In the 'Mark's Stuff' menu, I saw that VirtualBox launcher had been successfully moved.
In the 'Accessories' menu, I saw that the original VirtualBox launcher was still there, so I Removed it.
In the 'Mark's Stuff' menu, the VirtualBox launcher was now missing.

What happened, and what can I do to recover the VirtualBox launcher?

Thanks for your help. Perhaps soon I'll be able to help myself.
Mark.

Try this at first:

Open the file manager and make hidden files visible (ctrl-h).
Go into .local -> share -> applications and find, if the is there is a .desktop-file for virtualbox. Move it to another place in your home. Than log out and back in into your account.

I admit, that the chance, that this will do the trick, is rather small, but it will not have an effect for your other menu accommodations, so it is worth as a first try.

If you don't mind to loose your menu accommodations you can click in the menu editor the button to revert the menu to default.
