I have Linux Mint (Cinnamon), with nvidia-340 graphics driver and I noticed after running the computer for a long time (or probably after running applications that consume a lot of memory) the screen starts flickering and afterwards many characters on the screen get scrambled as shown in the image

till I restart the computer. Can I cure this problem without restarting?

The temperature of the GPU is in the range 59-63 C while the screen is flickering. Is this normal? If not, what can I do about it?bartszu wrote:temperature

No clue if this was solved since this is an old thread, but getting rainbow colors or flashing and random characters is a sign of a bad graphics card. It may only start doing it at higher temps, such as after powered on for a while, and it may get more severe and start doing it more frequently, but the solution is to replace your bad card.
