Why No Wallpaper?

My apologies if this is in the wrong area...?

I'm running Mint 18.1/Cinnamon 64-bit, and while everything seems to be going smoothly so far, why is it that any pictures I choose as wallpaper are not staying on my desktop? Every time I choose one and set it as wallpaper, it goes away next time I boot up. Weird! Any suggestions as to what it could be/how I can fix this? Thank you all!

That will happen if the image is on a partition that doesn't mount automatically. Chose one from your Home partition and see what happens.

I gather that I am using my Home partition if it is in my Downloads folder? Stupid question, I know...

Move the image to the desktop and try from there

Tried moving it to the Home folder and bang, problem solved, as per your suggestion. Thank you!
