Yes. Sometimes irregularly.

I'm not sure what script you are talking about. You mean a script to automatically restart your LAN connection periodically? I don't know of any script like that. Besides, there is something causing the connection drops you are experiencing, and there is almost certainly a fix for it. A script like that would just be an ugly work-around. I don't know if I can solve your problem; I am not a networking expert. But there are experts here who can probably help you. The first thing you will need to do is open a terminal, maximize the window to avoid cut-off lines, enter inxi -Fxz, press enter, then copy/paste the output from that command into your next post here. That will tell the experts about your computer, your operating system, your desktop environment, and other things they will need to help solve your problem.

This happened to me several times recently only not in Mint. In every single case the culprit was with the failing router port. It may also be in the 4.8 kernel you are using. With the same network chip on board and 4.4 kernel I have no issues. Switch back to kernel 4.4 and if the problem persists, try to replace the router(if that is what is attached to your LAN port).

Changing the kernel did not help. Still the same. But more than 70% improvement though not aesthetically helped restart it via crontab every 5 minutes. Another proposal to solve than happy welcome.

Resolved by purchasing Intel 1000 network cards.
