How can I change where desktop icons are auto arranged to?

Post by duncanmarshall »

I have an unusual desktops with 3 different sized monitors: https://i.imgur.com/1MRNw9L.png

When I sort icons, or create a new file on the desktop, those icons are sorted from the top left of the outer box in the image above, and that area is off the screen. Ideally, I'd like the sorting process for icons to begin in the top left of the large central screen.

Is there any way I can do this? Perhaps restrict icons to a specific area of the desktop, or hook in to the sorting process so that I can add code which sorts to a specific area, if it's not possible to simply tell the responsible program to only put icons on the center screen.

I'm running Mint 17 Cinnamon, and Nemo is the file manager.

Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon handles arranging of desktop icons differently. You could try it live to see if it works better with the changes done to that code. If that has the same problem of putting icons off-screen, report an issue (no sense in reporting an issue for Linux Mint 17 as it isn't using the current version of Cinnamon).
