My mint freezes randomly. When i say freezes i mean its completely frozen (like watching a picture). Keyboard does not answer, mouse to. If there is a music in background then its like last played second is on loop constantly. Install is new (like 2-3 days), all drivers are installed. I also have chrome and thats what i usually use. Freezes happen randomly, there is no time window or some actions programs. Sometimes its just sitting playing music on youtube and it freezes, sometimes it plays using Rhytmbox and still freezes, and once it froze without any app running (app that i installed like chrome). I was thinking its possible that it could be my limited ram (2gb for 64bit os) but it cant be since it freezes even when computer is completely inactive...

You can try updating your kernel. Not sure it will solve your issues, but the 4.8.x series is no longer supported, and therefore technically a vulnerability.

I would either downgrade to 4.4.x (which is a Long Term Support (LTS) version), or upgrade to the 4.10.x (which in not LTS, like 4.8.x is).

Updated to Kernel: 4.10.0-35-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0) -> copy/paste rom terminal
Decided to wait for a few days to see how system will react. Still same thing happens, but i must admit a way less frequent, if previously 3-4 times a day, now its once maybe twice sometimes.

And there is still nothing that can give any clue to what it can be. Also my system is now completely up to date including Level 5 (i chose in config to display them). Any help is welcome.

I had a similar issue with Cinnamon on Intel integrated graphics. The solution was to go back to the KDE version, since I never successfully solved it.

I had the same problem where the system would completely freeze 2- 3 times a day with 18.2 x64. A quick fix for me was disabling all visual effects for cinnamon and for the past few days the problem did not occur. I also noticed that if i left it in the frozen state after some time it would restart by itself if no music is in the background, which makes me think that some cinnamon effect goes haywire and starts taking too much memory.

What does the hard drive LED show whilst it is frozen? Is the hard drive thrashing away?

If so, this might help.
