How can I create a keyboard shortcut for "Create New (Text) Document" in Nemo?

I was thinking Ctrl-Shift-D would be good.

Nemo 3.4.7 (current version of Nemo)
Cinnamon Mint 18.2

I've just messed around with this, not having done it before. If you want to open a new XED file this seems to work:

Menu / Preferences / Keyboard

Shortcuts Tab

Add Custom Shortcut

Give it any name.
Enter "xed" (without quotes) in Command box.
Click 'Add'.

Keyboard Bindings: Double-click first 'Unassigned' line and when 'Pick an accelerator' appears hit the keys CTR/Shift/D on your keyboard.

CTR/Shift/D then opens a new XED file ready for you to edit and save.

Anyway, not really sure if that's what you're actually after but hopefully helpful - I'm assuming you mean open when you say 'create'?

Edit: enter "libreoffice --writer" in Command box if you want to open a new Libre Office text document.

Mick, thanks for your reply.

I'm afraid I wasn't clear. I don't just want a new Xed file ready for me to work on. (If I did, I'd just press WindowsKey> type "xed", Press [Enter])

Please do this:
1. Open Nemo.
2. See the "File" on the upper left? Click it, or press Alt-F
Notice how "Create New Folder" has a keyboard shortcut of Shift-Ctrl-N? When you choose to Create a New Folder, it will create a new folder in the folder you're currently viewing.

Or try this:
1. Open Nemo
2. Go to File > [Create New Document] > [Empty Document]
Notice how this will create a blank document inside the folder you're currently viewing.

I want a keyboard equivalent of this.

Ah, ok, here we go...

1. Show hidden files
2. Open /.gnome2/accels/nemo
3. Line 89 should look like this:

Code: Select all

 ; (gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/DirViewActions/New Empty Document" "")

4. Change it to this:

Code: Select all

(gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/DirViewActions/New Empty Document" "<Primary><Shift>d")

5. Logout and back in again

CTR/Shift/D and hopefully you'll see a new file in whatever folder you've got open.

Note: make sure you remove the semi-colon and space at the start of the line.
Just did the above and it worked here.

In case you're wondering how a newbie came up with this gem - https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=185346
