[SOLVED] Panel (toolbar) Disappeared

Postby Ashbree » Sat Nov 11, 2017 7:55 am

Hello,
I recently stepped over from windows to Linux so I don't know everything yet and I've figured out that a lot of problems I have can be solved through commands. Normally I would scatter the Internet for help, but this time I couldn't find what i needed.
I am a amateur artist and wanted to learn my little nephew to draw.
What I did in the beginning to draw is too put a piece of paper on my laptop and draw the lines. Normally on windows I can make the tool-bar disappear and reappear with a mouse click. So I thought, it'll be almost the same in Linux Mint.

Now that I let the tool-bar disappear, i cannot make it reappear. I can't find it anywhere on the Internet how to reappear again.
Can somebody help me with this problem?

How exactly did you make the panel disappear?
Which version of Linux Mint (that means: version number and desktop environment) are you using? I'm assuming Cinnamon, but it's better to be sure.

My version is Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon.

There was a button on the panel with ''hide toolbar'' or something. it's been a few days now haha

That's no button that I've ever seen. How about this:
Menu => Preferences => Panel => Add new panel
Rightclick on shiny new panel and choose Troubleshoot => Restore all settings to default.

Workaround: Rightclick on the desktop, open 'desktop settings'. Use the arrow button on the left top of the window to get into the other settings. Does that work?

Can you bring up a terminal by using Ctl+Alt+T

I don't have a copy of 18.2, but if structure for file locations is the same as for 18, running the below line in at the Terminal prompt will bring up your Panel Editor:

Code: Select all

/usr/share/cinnamon/cinnamon-settings/cinnamon-settings.py panel
