[SOLVED] Cinnamon unexpectedly froze

Post by Kyowash »

As the title says, Cinnamon disappeared and a message that said it froze and it needed to be refreshed was shown. Here are the entries on the syslog. Does anyone know what was the cause?

Please generate an overview of your system like this:

- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);

- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;

- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

- Press Enter.

- Copy/paste the output in your next message.

OK, try this:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... l-graphics
(item 6, left column)

And also disable all visual effects in Cinnamon:

(item 7.1, right column)

I'm not using the Intel graphics card, but the Nvidia one. And I have visual effects deactivated.
I've discovered it happens sometimes when I share my screen with Skype. I'm not using the version found in the repository (it was removed from there for some reason), I'm rather using the one found on the official site. Could it be the cause?

Did you perhaps install any desklets and/or applets in your Cinnamon? If so, remove them and see whether that helps.

The only applet I've "installed" is the Dropbox one, downloaded by default when installing Dropbox. When I use Remmina, it also puts an applet. I will try to test it with these applets removed, but the cinnamon crash seems to be happening randomly just while using Skype.

Confirmed. Skype is the problem. I will remove the external repository and purge the skypeforlinux package. Thank you for your help, Pjotr.
