Post by mbenatti »

There's similar topics but I'm posting because I didn't found this error in another Topic:

How I reproduce:
1) Suspend
2) Resume
Result: Cinnamon Crash and show the panel to restart it.

Hi :)
a way to provoke the crash..

stop the network-manager

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl stop network-manager
standby the mashine...... wait 30 seconds..
resume

restart the network-manager

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl restart network-manager
bang... cinnamon crash

Code: Select all

Dec 16 20:53:14 user-Lenovo-V570 kernel: [16967.759913] cinnamon[9479]: segfault at 40200000046 ip 00007f63e99528f0 sp 00007fff450fed00 error 4 in libgobject-2.0.so.0.4800.2[7f63e991e000+52000]
try that 2 or 3 times... sometimes no crash.

Ha :)

the trouble maker is the network applet... network@cinnamon.org..
remove the applet, and the resume crash is gone ..

hope the bug will fix soon ;)

Hi :)
after the update to cinnamon 3.6.7 the bug is not gone :(

you can provoke the crash, without standby or hibernate...

stop network-manager ... and restart network-manager... bang.. cinnamon crash...
test on 6 mashines.

without network applet works propper..

I'm experiencing the same problem. The bug report can be found here:

If you have a moment, please review and add specifics, or maybe even a back trace.

I successfully applied the fix proposed by ehtron:
right click on panel,
select add applets,
un-check network,
restart.
Then suspend works without issue, and Cinnamon is usable. This worked on two different laptops, Mint 18.3, Cinnamon 3.6.7.

Had the same problem on my Cinnamon for a while (seems like since a Mint 18 upgrade) and finally figured it out. I had a systemd script to automatically restart the network-manager service after restart as outlined here. This was causing the cinnamon crash, no matter if I had the Network applet enabled or not. Disabling this script solved the problem. The systemd script isn't needed anymore, since whatever issue that was causing the WiFi to not reconnect after suspend has been resolved.
