cant log in ....lasted less than 10 seconds...error

Post by rcl »

I tried to log into one of my user accounts today and was confronted with the error that ....my last session only lasted less than 10 seconds...

It referred to possible install error or lack of disk space.

the details are:

syndaemon: no process found
/etc/mdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
localuser:maristelabanking being added to access control list
Script for none started at run_im.
mkdtemp: private socket dir: Permission denied

I am able to login to my other user account with no problem. There is almost 100g of disk space left.

I tried Startx in the faulty account. it ended with something about xorg and server not found.

Any ides?

I think the key is here:
mkdtemp: private socket dir: Permission denied
The user you're trying to log in as can't create the necessary temp directory. Apparent;y hasn't the necessary permissions to create the directory.

You'll have to log in and assign the permissions for this user to the temp directory.

Based on that, if you are able to log in as this user, you probably have more fish to fry later...

One thing I would suggest, create a partition as a 50G partition as /. Partition the rest as /Home. IF the system fails, reinstall and use the exact same username and all your 'stuff' comes back to you.

You;ll have to do that as root (or sudo) and allow that user to have access to the directory.

We'll have to wait for someone more skilled than I; I have only ever had to change permissions for myself.
