(Solved) Two computers, different log in widow preferences.

Post by stevep3129 » Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:21 pm

I have a laptop and a desktop both running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit, Version 3.6.7.
On my desktop it has these choices:

On my laptop it has these choices:

Why do the two machines with the same Versions of LM 18.3 have different log in window preferences?

I like the my lap top version, how can I get it on my desktop?

The desktop install likely started life as a fresh install of 18.2 or 18.3 and has LightDM and slick-greeter managing the login screen.

The laptop install likely started life as an 18.1 or earlier installation and still has MDM managing the login screen.

To switch to MDM it should be a case of

apt install mdm mint-mdm-themes mint-mdm-themes-html mint-mdm-themes-gdm

You should be asked which login manager you wish to use.

Then

apt purge slick-greeter lightdm lightdm-settings

After that you may need to run

sudo dpkg-reconfigure mdm
