Cinnamon causes high CPU usage after a while

Post by nardj »

I recently upgraded to Sylvia. Since then about half an hour after booting, my computer becomes intermittently unresponsive (each 10 seconds or so). Looking at the System Monitor I see a spike in CPU usage (100%) occurring each time. Using 'htop' I get VIRT:2802M, RES:1013M, SHR:79660, CPU:67.9%; MEM 12,8%

A temporary fix is restarting Cinnamon, but this only lasts 20 minutes. Below my system specs. Anyone have the same problem and possibly a real fix?

If you switch the system monitor to application view you can sort them by CPU usage and find out what's using that much.

Well top of the list is Cinnamon --replace. If I kill this process it is gone for a minute of 10 and then it returns. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this further?

Are you running any spices installed from the cinnamon spices site? If so, disable them and try again.
